Banking: Believe me the Euro is the best thing to happen for
a traveller to Europe - (see $$$) also.
I was in Paris on January 1, 2002 and though I think I got cheated
a couple of times that day but after that no hassel in travelling
across countries using Euro!
Transport: Rail, Europe is big so driving is difficult. You
dont really need air travel unless you are skipping a lot of places,
further the train stations are right in the middle of most city and
very convinient.
Electricity: 220V, circular socket but different everywhere....
you can get one single adapter for all styles.
